Expertise

Marvin Gilbert has taught research methods to undergraduate and graduate students since 1981. In late 2011, he began applying those skills to his own dramatic weight loss (90 pounds) and concomitant gains in spiritual and physical fitness.

Background

Before joining the faculty at SAGU, Marvin served for almost 30 years as a missionary in Africa. He has taught full time at three theological training schools on the Continent, in addition to Evangel University and a part-time assignment at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) in Springfield, MO. During his tenure at AGTS, he began writing brief, highly focused chapters on research methods for his students. He also recruited other AGTS faculty to contribute chapters within their expertise, editing their contributions as they were completed. This work, first envisioned as an in-house contribution to students in the Intercultural Studies Department, grew with the editorial help of two of his AGTS colleagues, into the 2018 text entitled Missiological Research: Interdisciplinary Foundations, Methods, and Integration.
