Expertise

Dr. Fernandes is an Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Vocal Studies at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Although her awards are in Voice performance, her passion and research is in Vocal pedagogy and teaching – educating young singers in vocal health and singing with the correct vocal technique and foundation so that they can enjoy the longevity of a professional vocalist.

Background

Dr. Fernandes has taught voice in Canada, India, Singapore and the U.S. She has sung with the Singapore Lyric Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Vancouver Chamber Singers (under the ‘Focus’ program), Trinity Western University Chamber  Choir and Chamber Singers and several church choirs. She has a Doctorate in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Texas, Austin, a Masters in Voice Performance from Texas Christian University, a Masters in Music Education from Texas Christian University, and a Bachelors of Arts (Major in Music – Voice emphasis) from Trinity Western University, Canada. She has a graduate certificate in Worship Studies from Liberty University, a certification in the Graduate Portfolio Program in Arts and Cultural Management and Entrepreneurship at UT, Austin and a DipLRSM and LRSM (Diploma and Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music, London) in Voice Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, U.K.
