Niche.com recently ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) as having the  #1 safest college campus in Texas, and the #14 safest college campus in the nation, putting SAGU in the top 1% safest college campuses nationally.

In 2017, SAGU was ranked #4 safest college campus in the nation by Niche.com.

Niche.com determines its rankings based on data from the U.S. Department of Education and ranks schools that offer “a safe and healthy environment with little or no campus crime, drugs, or alcohol usage.”

A recent anonymous SAGU student commented on Niche’s ranking, saying, “SAGU has been such a great place…the community is unlike any school I have ever seen or heard of.”

SAGU’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff converges with the decade-long vision and leadership of SAGU Chief of Security Ron Crane, who arrived at SAGU in 2012. “I tell the Officers that we give value, worth, and respect to everyone,” Chief Crane says, “…from the custodial person who cleans our building to the President of the University,” Chief Crane mentions this as a team concept that functions best when everyone is involved.

Chief Crane explains that campus security partners with the University to create a safe and secure environment. “We are 24/7 – we never close,” He says. “We do hourly patrols; we have cameras across the campus, including card access to our buildings. We train our officers, staff & faculty, and students to be eyes & ears and if they ‘see something, say something.’”

It all boils down to one thing – “It is all about building relationships with the people at SAGU,” Chief Crane says. “…incorporating training, and listening to everyone on how we can better protect them.”

SAGU Security is dedicated to continuing to provide a safe and secure environment. As a leading Christian university, SAGU educates and prepares individuals who want to serve Christ and others. SAGU helps students discover and develop their God-given callings in a Spirit-empowered learning community. We believe in affordable tuition, made possible in part through the financial support of donors who embrace the mission of SAGU and the importance of affordable, accredited programs to train Christians for leadership in ministry, business, education, and service. Most majors are available in person in Waxahachie, TX, and online through a wide range of associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
