Mission TEN team in Southern Asia

More than 75 students from Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) packed their bags to minister to a foreign country this summer through Mission TEN. Mission TEN (To Every Nation) is an initiative at SAGU to pray, proclaim the gospel, and send workers to every nation on earth.

Students were sent all over the globe including areas in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Several of the countries visited along with ministries students helped to provide within these countries are shown below:

  • Sierra Leone: school assemblies/outreaches during the week, visiting church plants on the weekends to preach, sing, fellowship and build relationships
  • Peru: street evangelism, Vacation Bible School & educating high school students about sexual abuse, substance abuse and coping strategies, and self-esteem.
  • Mexico: Kids Crusade, men’s and women’s ministry
  • Austria: working as activity directors for a youth camp and ministering to teenaged children.
  • Switzerland: prayer over different churches and revival throughout the region
  • Italy: working with local missionaries to promote a recently planted church
  • Southern Asia: performing/teaching music and art workshops for young adults
  • Germany: children’s ministry
  • Taiwan: children’s ministry in schools and churches along with kids camps and training sessions.

Along with Mission TEN's efforts overseas, a team was also deployed to Atlanta, Georgia, to work with the Dream Center through homeless ministry, sex trafficking ministry and kids ministry.

Mission TEN's commitment began in 2008 with hopes to place a mission team on the ground in every nation of the world within ten years of its initial launch.

Rennae de Freitas, Missions Office Coordinator and Missionary-in-Residence, says, “It is important for people to see what God is doing all over the world. Most people are called to missions while experiencing the mission field. We are presenting them an experience in every culture in a dynamic way to motivate them to get involved in the Mission TEN initiative.”

Student Joshua Sanders had the opportunity to work with Live Dead this summer.

Live Dead is a grassroots, missionary, church planting movement within the Assemblies of God World Missions. This ministry currently has 40 teams targeting approximately 4,095 Unreached People Groups in five regions of the world.

Sanders said that working with Live Dead this summer reaffirmed his calling to missions to the Muslim world.

“I would heavily encourage students to do Mission Ten,” Sanders said. “Mission Ten changed my life. My first trip was what helped me discover the passion for the lost that I now have. This summer trip taught me about leadership, flexibility, how important it is for Christians to be willing to grow, and how important it is that we all step up and answer God's call in Matthew 28:19-20 (The Great Commission) for our lives.”

The ultimate goal of Mission TEN is to expose students to the world of missions and challenge them to serve in the field for a longer period of time. Since its formation, Mission TEN has had 149 trips.
