The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will travel to Batesville, AR , for a Sooner Athletic Conference battle. This matchup between the 2nd place Lions and the 7th place Scots will be on October 13th at 2 pm. Lyon College is currently 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the SAC with a 29-16 conference win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University .

The Lions offensive line will be tested come Saturday as the Scots have one of the most productive defensive lines/linebacker core in the country. They are ranked in the top 10 nationally for total sacks with 21 and sacks by with an average of 3.500. They are also ranked nationally in the following categories: pass defense efficiency, opponents 3rd down conversion, rushing defense per game, opponent first downs, total defense per game and pass defense per game.  They are led by linebacker, Sam Taylor who has double-digit tackles in three of their six games, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks on the season. Ethan Skarmas also has 6.5 tackles for loss and leads the Scots in sacks with 5.5.

Offensively, they are balanced but get more production on the ground with 159.8 yards per game. Jared, Puamau, Titus Nelson, Joe Mahe , and quarterback Spencer Childress are the contributors to these yards as they rotate multiple guys in and out at the running back position with Childress have the option to scramble if needed. Childress has over 600 yards in the air and seven touchdowns. He has completed over half his passes to receiver Emetrious Scott who has 30 receptions, 427 yards, and two touchdowns on the year.

SAGU is coming off of a big win when Texas College was unable to stop Lion’s CJ Collins and Samuel Northey . Collins had four touchdowns through the air, and Northey had three total (two receiving and one kick-off return). Collins is in midseason form as he has through nine touchdowns in the past two games and 15 in the past four games. He now leads the SAC in total passing yards and tied for first in passing touchdowns. Linebacker, Landon Jones had a field day stopping the Steers run attack as he ended the game with a total of 23 tackles and one for a loss. This moves him into 2nd in the conference with 54 tackles on the season (1st is Lyon College’s Sam Taylor).

This weekend is huge in the conference standings; if the Lions win and Arizona Christian beats Langston on Saturday there will be a three-way tie between the three teams with three weeks left in the season. You can watch the 2 pm kickoff on Lyon’s athletic website http://www.lyonscots.com/schedule/0/15.php.
