In a huge rematch from last year, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football team will travel to Langston University . This was potentially for the championship of the CSFL last season as the Lions were defeated 10-14. The Lions drove well for the go-ahead touchdown but were stopped on Langston’s 25-yard line to end the game. The next game they beat Bacone College which leads to the winningest season in school history with 8 wins. They placed 2nd in the CSFL and were invited to the Victory Bowl to cap off the memorable season.

CJ Collins finished the championship game with 181 passing yards and one touchdown, that one touchdown was completed to Bryant Dotson for 31 yards. Receiver, Roderick Brown was all over the field with eight catches for 58 yards. Linebacker, Jordaan Coleman led the defense with nine tackles and four of those being for a loss to go with his three sacks to a stellar championship performance.

The Lions are going to have their hands full with Langston’s high powered offense; they rank 1st in the nation for 3rd down conversions (60%), first downs per game (32.00), total offensive yards per game (584.00), and scoring offense per game (63.00). They also rank 3rd for opponent’s first downs (26), 4th in kickoff and punt return yards per attempt and 5th for rushing offense per game (288.00). With SAGU’s defense playing better and better this should a great matchup the Lions are ready to tackle.

When the Lions get in scoring possession they have been more than efficient in the kicking game. SAGU ranks 1st nationally for PAT kicking and field goal percentage thanks to Tluang Hmung ; they also rank 1st for 4th down conversions. Ranking in the top 10, as well, for passing defense efficiency (80.80), penalty yards per game and opponent’s 3rd down conversions. Michael Bledsoe is ranked nationally with 240 rushing yards and an average of 80 rushing yards per game. CJ Collins is in the same boat being ranked for passing yards per game with 187, total passing yards (561) and total offensive yards per game with 193. Samuel Northey is 9th with 12.50 punt return yards per attempt, 10th with an average of seven receptions per game, 15th with 21 total receptions, and 22th with 50 total punt return yards. Defensive back Christian Cross ranks 4th with three total interceptions and an average of one interception per game.

SAGU has not had a good record against Langston in the past; the Lions will look to turn that streak around Saturday night at 6 pm and bump their winning streak up to three. A win would set them up nicely in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 2-0 record and not many teams remaining with an undefeated conference record.
