The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU ) volleyball team has swept the Sooner Athletic Conference for the second week in a row. There are 3 awards handed out each week and the Lady Lions have claimed 8 out of the 9 awards for the season. They are currently sitting in 1st place with an undefeated conference record and an overall record of 9-1, winning 8 in a row.
Suzanny Figueiredo , is the participant of SAC Attacker of the Week for September 3-9. Figueiredo, is a senior outside hitter from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil that transferred to SAGU for her senior season. She transferred from Cisco College to Oklahoma Baptist University then to Waxahachie . Suzanny averaged 5.17 kills per set to go a long with 4.50 digs and 0.33 blocks. Over the weekend at Wayland Baptist she recorded 17 kills, 19 digs and 2 blocks to propel her for this award.
Celi Bruce was awarded Defender of the Week for the second week in a row. Bruce is a senior libero from Waxahachie, TX who transferred back home from Henderson State University . She put together 5.83 digs per match and 1.000 service/reception percentage for the weekend.
Sophia Ivy is no stranger to Setter of the Week being voted 3 for 3 on the weekly award. Ivy is a junior setter from Round Rock, TX . She averaged 11 assists per set, 5.50 digs and 0.33 blocks in their two matchups. Sophia is ranked 6th in the nation for assists per game and 39th for total assists over the 2018-2019 season.
The Lions will be back in action Friday night in a SAC battle against Oklahoma City University who is 3-0 in conference play. The first serve will be hit at 7 pm with only one team remaining undefeated and at top of the conference standings.
