The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team is off to a fantastic start for the 2018-2019 season with a record of 7-1. This is the best start for a Lion’s season since the 2008-2009 campaign. The start has lead them to receiving 95 national votes to place them as one of the top 30 teams in the nation, putting them at 27 for this week’s NAIA rankings. On top of that, they are 4-0 in conference currently sitting in 1st place in front of undefeated teams Wayland Baptist University (3-0) and Oklahoma City University (2-0). They will play both of these teams in the next ten days. The Lady Lions are ranked top 20 in the nation for the following categories: 6th with 13.070 assist, 11th with 13.760 kills per game, and 17th with 18.520 digs per game.
Some words from Coach Hank Moore on this season so far, “For the first time in our history, SAGU volleyball has received votes for the NAIA National Rankings. After defeating two teams ranked in the top 30 we received 95 votes in the voting process. Our kids are working extremely hard and are playing at a high level. We are very excited that SAGU volleyball is now being mentioned in this group of teams.”
