“This is one of our most difficult trips of the year. We are glad it is over and we leave with 2 more conference wins.” said Coach Moore.  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team survived the long road weekend and headed back to Waxahachie remaining in 1st place in conference after the two wins. “They battled very hard, they have two key players out with injuries. We struggled and did not play one of our better matches. As a team we hit .101 and still won.”

Despite not hitting the ball well, they were able to win 3 straight sets on unfamiliar territory and senior leadership carried the Lady Lions through a victory on a night like in Plainview; 25-19, 33-31, and 25-22.

Suzanny Figueiredo had a great match with a double double, 17 kills, 19 digs and 2 blocks to go along with that. Sophia Ivy had a career night with a total of 23 digs for her high as a Lions, she also had 30 assist. Celi Bruce added 18 digs for the Lions victory.

The Pioneers played the Lions well, round 2 in Waxahachie should be a good one. SAGU has another big week ahead of them, 2 conference home games and a non-conference home battle. The Lions play Oklahoma City University Friday night at 7 pm, Southwestern Christian University Saturday at noon then finish out the weekend playing Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 4 pm.
