Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball Texas Wesleyan University Sooner Athletic Conference th

The first set the Lady Lions gave the Lady Rams a run for their money.  With the score tied 7-7, TWU went on a 5-0 run thanks to three kills in a row. At one point, TWU led SAGU 16-9.  The Lady Lions continued to work away at that spread, and went on a 5-0 run of their own thanks to three kills by Bojana Vukadinovic that put the score 21-19 TWU.  SAGU matched TWU point for point, driving the score to 29-27 with TWU finally winning after a long volley.

After the intense first set for the Lady Lions, the second set was a little sluggish.  TWU jumped to the early lead and at one point led by 18-9.

The third and final set was more like the first, staying within a point or two at all times.  SAGU’s Kali Shaw had three kills in a row late in the set to put the Lady Lions behind 23-21.  But in the end, the Lady Rams had the edge.

SAGU’s Summer Skillern had a strong showing with 15 kills. Kali Shaw added 12 kills. Sophia Ivy had 39 assists and current SAC Defender-of-the-Week Celi Bruce added 16 digs.

Statistically, SAGU topped TWU in most categories.  They had six more kills than TWU and four more assists.  Unfortunately, the young SAGU team had more errors than the Lady Rams as well.

SAGU will travel to play at Southwestern Christian on Friday, November 28, 2016.  Game time is at 7pm.  SCU is currently 15-12 overall and 4-10 in the SAC.  Earlier in the season, SAGU topped SCU in five sets.
