The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team finishes in the top 10 of the NCCAA National Rankings coming in at eight. The Lady Lions finished 1-2 in the NCCAA World Series beating Kentucky Christian 6-1 then losing to Concordia 1-3 and the champions, Erskine College, 0-3. SAGU finishes the season with a 31-28 record receiving 19 points in the last poll of the NCCAA rankings.

Game one against Concordia, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th inning when Concordia struck first leading 0-1 then hit a triple in the 6th to score two more runs for their total of three. Casey Waterman hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th for the Lady Lions lone run. Rhian Journey went two for three, and Destinee Vindiola had the other hit for a team total of four hits.

Shortly after their game against Concordia, Erskine stepped onto the diamond with similar scoring situations, the Lady Lions gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. One being earned and the other coming from two SAGU errors. The Lady Lions were held to just two hits with Cheyenne Fults and Journey both having one.

The Lady Lions bumped their historic win total to 31 after scoring six runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Janely Cruz went two for three, Maddie Watson also went two for three with one run, then Journey led the team with three RBI’s from having a multi-hit game with two. Morgan Valentino, Brycelen Richards , Fults, Waterman, and Vindiola each had one hit with Richard’s being a double. Waterman recorded her 24th win of the season after only allowing one run which ranked 15th in the NAIA for total wins.
