Waxahachie, Texas – September 15, 2017 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams will be traveling to run the First to the Finish Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern State University, in Joplin, Mo.

This will be both team’s second meet of the season. The stampede is widely known to have some of the best competition in the country across the collegiate spectrum including many top notch NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College schools.

The women’s team has another opportunity to qualify for NCCAA nationals in a stacked field of serious competitors.  The large field gives the Lady Lions a perfect opportunity for personal best across the board.

For the Lions, this has proved to be a big week.  On Wednesday, the NAIA Top 25 Cross Country teams were announced.  SAGU received five votes in the latest polls and are on the cusp of breaking into the top 25.  The Missouri Southern meet will give the Lions a chance to continue to climb in the rankings.

The men do have their work cut out for them, however. They will toe the line with the 12th, 14th, and 20th nationally ranked NAIA teams.

Both teams are in for an impressive showing this Saturday, September 16th, 2017 on the John Rutledge Cross Country Course. Live results will be streamed at www.heartlandtiming.com.  The Lady Lions run at 8am and the men compete at 9am.
