Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women’s soccer Stacy Rodriguez Gabriella Vargas Aliyah Mora

Stacy Rodriguez will be graduating from Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center in Dallas Texas.  Since her high school doesn’t have athletics, Rodriguez played as a midfielder for Sunset High School .

SAGU soccer assistant coach Kaylyn Flores is happy to welcome such a versatile player to the roster, “Stacy is a very hard-working and respectful player.  She plays center-mid but can fill in at defense as well. She is quick and very skilled; exactly what a coach looks for in the center-mid position.”

In addition to soccer, Rodriquez is active in the Spanish Honors Society , National Honors Society as well as student council.  She’s been awarded with a principal’s award, as well as being on the A Honor Roll.

Gabriella Vargas is a goalkeeper from Harlingen High School in Harligen, Texas.  She is involved in multiple student activities such as Key Club, student council, TAFE, science club as well as a member of the Lower Valley Cotillion Club for two years.

Playing for SAGU has been a dream for Vargas for many years she says, “My parents took me when I was a little girl to visit during fine arts and I fell in love with SAGU.  Being able to play soccer was a true blessing and honor to be a part of the program.”

“On the field, Gabi is a hard worker and skilled goalkeeper, but more importantly, she has a great attitude and a strong love for the Lord,” says Flores, “She will fit in well with the team and the school. We were very excited to sign her!”

Aliyah Mora is a senior midfielder/forward for Duncanville High School. Mora has played varsity soccer all four years at Duncanville.  She’s also been involved in the culinary arts program for two years.

“Aliyah is a quick and very skilled player, with an amazing shot from outside the box.  We believe she will hold a strong presence on the field and quickly step into a leadership role for the team. We are anxious to see her raise our level offensively,” explains Flores.

The Lady Lions are coming off of the best season in school history.  In 2015 they went 9-11 and are looking to improve on that record in the upcoming 2016 season.
