Waxahachie, Texas–February 26th, 2018–The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s basketball team got their 9th conference win of the season and 14th win overall. The Lady Lions improved to 14-14 and 9-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play with a win over Central Christian College (100-68).

The Lady Lions were celebrating Senior Day for their one senior, Ebony Colbert . Colbert is a four year letterwinner for SAGU from Desoto, Texas. Colbert would finish the game with 12 points and four rebounds for the Lady Lions.

Offensively, SAGU was lead by sophomore Lexi Rich . Rich set a school record for most three-pointers made in a game with nine and would finish with a career high 35 points. Rich was 10 of 25 from the field and nine of 19 from three. Freshmen Sydney Meador had 14 points for the Lions, hitting four three pointers and freshman Kiara Glenn added 12 points. Junior Dotty Diggles finished with eight points and Sophomore Eva Atunuwa would tag on seven points. Freshman Brianna Wells had 11 rebounds and Atunuwa and sophomore Korede Ahmedu grabbed nine boards for SAGU.

Head Coach Tiffany Phillips said, “We talked all week about sending Ebony out in style and giving her a night that she would remember and I think we did just that. We played a little sluggish and a bit slow at times but that was expected because of the quick turnaround we had. Our bench was crucial tonight and we had five players that gave us significant minutes. Regardless of what anyone thinks, in a college basketball game if you have a bench that can come in a give 5 or 6 minutes of a break then that is so important. Every single minute that our bench is in is helpful and it does matter. It takes the entire team to win a game. Every player has a role and is valuable to our team.”

The Lady Lions finished in 6th place in the 12 team Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and will likely face the three seed Wayland Baptist University (WBU). WBU defeated SAGU in both previous matches this season. The game will be played in Plainview, Texas on Tuesday, February 27th.
