Waxahachie, TX – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) played host to Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) on Friday in the opening game of the SAGU Classic at the Sheaffer Center. SAGU (1-1, 0-0) fell to OLLU (1-0, 0-0) by the score of 82-46.

Top Performers:

  • Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) had her second double-double in as many games. She scored 19 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.
  • Sydney Meador (J R / Denton, TX ) also reached double-figure scoring with 11 points.
  • Alexis Casher ( JR / Irvington, AL ) had a team high 4 assists and 11 rebounds.

How it Happened:

  • Constant full-court pressure by OLLU gave SAGU fits. The Lady Lions were unable to score until there was 4:13 left in the first quarter.
  • SAGU managed only six points in each quarter and trailed big going into halftime 43-12.
  • SAGU struggled from the field shooting only 23% for the game.
  • A positive takeaway for SAGU was they held their own in the paint. The Lady Lions were outrebounded, but only by a margin of five (34-29).

Quotes From Coach Phillips:

  • “We have to do a better job handling the pressure from the start of the game. We had to adjust to the speed they were playing.”
  • “Obviously, that wasn’t the way we wanted things to go, but OLLU is ranked #6 in the NAIA for a reason
  • “We had a better second half, but we need to put two halves together to beat teams of their caliber.”

Next Step: The SAGU Lady Lions (1-1, 0-0) will host TAMUT (1-2, 0-0) to kick off day two of the SAGU Classic starting at 11:00 AM on November 9 th at the Sheaffer Center.
