Waxahachie, TX- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) were back in action at the Sheaffer Center for the first time in three weeks to host Southwestern Christian University (Okla.) (SCU). The Lions (19-3, 11-3) dominated from beginning to end and took out the Eagles (13-9, 6-8) by the score of 98-60.

Top Performers

  • Nyk Mason ( SO/Frisco, TX ) led the Lions in scoring with 19 points.
  • Kentton Williams ( SR/Levelland, TX ) posted another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
  • The SAGU had 45 bench points led by Howard Turner ( FR/Detroit, MI ) with 13 points.
  • Josh Kashila ( JR/Euless, TX ) led the Lions with 5 assists.
  • SAGU shot 51% (38-74) from the field including 36% (11-30) from behind the arc.
  • The Lions won the rebounding battle 48-40.

Lions Review

  • Mason got the Lions on the board first, but SCU answered with three straight baskets to take an early 6-5 lead.
  • Turner gathered a rebound and converted on the putback to cap a 15-6 run by SAGU to take a 21-11 lead with 11:08 remaining in the first half.
  • SCU went cold over the next few minutes. SAGU took advantage and hopped out to a 31-13 lead with 8:38 before half time.
  • The Eagles cut the deficit in half (38-19) but would only score four more points before halftime. The Lions took a 55-23 lead into the break.
  • SCU was able to trade baskets with SAGU early in the second half, but they couldn’t get any stops as the Lions doubled-up the Eagles 62-31 with 16:14 to go in the game.
  • The lead would swell to 30 points (72-42) as SCU went cold.
  • The Lions led by as many as 38 and SCU simply didn’t have an answer for the balance that SAGU had offensively. The Lions won in an impressive fashion 98-60.

SAGU (19-3, 11-3) will be in action again on Thursday February 13th at 7:45 when they host NAIA # 2 ranked Mid- American Christian University at the Sheaffrer Center.
