Waxahachie, Texas- September 12, 2015 – In the second tri-match of the year, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team stole victories from Mid-America Christian University (MACU) and Texas College . The lady lions started the day out with their first Sooner Athletic Conference ( SAC) win against Mid-America Christian University.
Against MACU, the game went to four sets (25-20,17-25,25-23,25-21). SAGU won the first set but gave away the second set to MACU having to come back and beat them in the next two sets.
Offensively this game, SAGU was led by sophomore Mollie McBride with 16 kills. Four Lady Lions ended in double digits for this game Summer Skillern added to the kills with 15, Faith Pittman came in with 11 kills and Kali Shaw followed with 10 kills. Senior setter Caitlin Paschall landed herself with a double/double again, having 49 assist and 15 digs.
Defensively the Lady Lions were on fire with a total of nine blocks. Freshman Faith Pittman had six assist blocks. SAGU also had five girls with double digits in digs. Senior Emmalee Smith l ed in digs with 24, setting the pace for Katie Ryan and Celi Bruce to both come out with 17, Caitlin Paschall followed with 15 and then Mollie McBride with 10.
Head Coach Hank Moore said, “It was a well-played match by both teams. I am very pleased with how hard the team competed.”
After coming off a SAC victory against MACU, the Lady Lions faced Texas College where they swept them off their feet in three straight sets (25-4, 25-14, 25-20). The game gave SAGU the ability to substitute more players for a chance of court time.
SAGU is now 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Lions will play on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 7:00pm against the University of Dallas.
