Sherman, Texas- October 28, 2015 – The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) volleyball team took a break from Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) play and split a doubleheader hosted by Austin College . The Lady Lions topped Dallas Christian College (25-19, 25-10, 25-18) in three, but lost to Austin College (25-13, 25-10, 25-20) in straight sets.
SAGU’s rotation was a bit different due to injury, “We ran a 6-2 offense with Emmalee Smith and Jennifer Strawn as setters. Emmalee had a double / double with 12 assist and 14 digs. Jennifer Strawn played really well and had 16 assists,” says head coach Hank Moore .
Madison McClure led the Lady Lions with eight kills against DCC.
In the second match of the day, AC toppled SAGU in three straight sets. “We really struggled getting the ball in system and they took advantage of our lack of offense and defense,” explains Moore, “This is one we will learn from and move on to our next opponent.”
Senior Katie Ryan led SAGU with 12 digs. Kali Shaw had 11 digs, followed by Emmalee Smith with 10.
This weekend SAGU will host two SAC games. On Friday, October 30, 2015, the Lady Lions will play the no. one team in the SAC, Wayland Baptist University (12-1 in the SAC, 23-7 overall). On Saturday, October 31, 2015 SAGU will play the no. two team in the SAC, Oklahoma City University (9-3 in the SAC, 16-6 overall). SAGU Sports Network will be broadcasting both games live.
