McPherson, KS- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Men’s Basketball team continued their road trip as they battled Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) opponent Central Christian College (Kan.) (CCCK) on Saturday afternoon. The Lions 21-5, 13-5) were taken to overtime and upset by the Tigers (12-14, 5-13) by the score of 99-94.

  • Nyk Mason ( SO/Frisco, TX ) led the Lions in scoring with 33 points while pulling down 9 rebounds.
  • Josh Kashila ( JR/Euless, TX ) recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Kentton Williams ( SR/Levelland, TX ) added a double-double of his own with 15 points and 10 boards.
  • SAGU was outrebounded 42-40
  • The Lions shot 49% (33-67) including 30% (6-20) from behind the arc.
  • The Lions turned the ball over 18 times compared to just 9 by the Tigers.

Lions Review

  • Noah Boling ( FR/van Alstyne, TX ) got the scoring started for SAGU as they trailed 3-2 early.
  • Williams was able to tie the game with a bucket at 10-10.
  • SAGU went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 11:34 left in the first half.
  • CCCK stormed back with a 15-4 run to take a 27-25 lead with 7:45 to go.
  • The Lions cut the lead down to 1 point four different times but trailed at halftime by the score of 41-38.
  • Darian Davis ( SR/Garland, TX ) cut the lead to one once again but was answered with a triple from the Tigers.
  • Mason and Kashila kept the Lions close with clutch baskets as they trailed 49-46 with just four minutes gone in the 2 nd half.
  • A Lions turnover led to another three-pointer by CCCK which pushed the lead to 64-57.
  • Kashila went on a 7-0 run by himself to tie the game at 64-64 with 8:29 remaining.
  • Mason put the Lions ahead 68-67 which was their first lead since there was 7:28 left in the first half.
  • The teams tied for the tenth time at 76-76 with 1:05 remaining in regulation.
  • The Lions went for the victory with a try from behind the arc that missed, but Mason was there for the putback as time expired to push the game into overtime.
  • Williams gave SAGU an 82-79 lead, but an 11-4 run put the Lions in a hole with 1:31 left.
  • The Lions got within two points of the lead, but CCCK knocked down their free-throws to extend the lead and earn a hard-fought victory.

SAGU will play their last SAC regular-season road game of the year on Tuesday, February 25 th at 7:45 against Texas Wesleyan University.
