The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) track teams will head to San Antonio, TX , this weekend for the Trinity Open , hosted by Trinity University . The meet is the Lions’ second in as many weeks, but due to unprecedented high winds at the Hardin Simmons Early Invitationa l, will be the first complete meet for the teams.
Head Coach , Jason Covarrubias, is anticipating this weekend, “Last week’s meet was a let down because of the high winds which forced us to head back mid-meet. So in my mind, this is the first meet of the season, and if our athletes are willing to compete with the same amount of effort in better conditions, we will do well!” Coach Covarrubias explained that he will place some athletes in different events, “Track is a long season and our goal is to peak in our best events come nationals. This week, some athletes will either run in either shorter or further distances than their ideal race to stretch their training or to fire up some speed fibers.”
The men and women will be competing this week are:
Isaac Bettinger (unattached) 100m and 200m
David Burciaga 800m and 3000 Steeplechase
