Business Expo Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) will host a business expo on September 5 to introduce students to local businesses and employment opportunities.

Local businesses from a broad range of industries will also have the opportunity to connect with students. Over 200 businesses were invited including different companies within the food industry, wedding venues, entertainment companies, retail businesses, insurance businesses and several others. Companies include Briarpatch , Costco , Altus Emergency Center and Ellis County Party Rentals . Recruiters will also be present.

Beverly Robinson is the Director of SAGU’s Career Services and is coordinating the event.

“It’s a great opportunity to network with our students if you are needing part-time employees or interns,” Robinson says.

“People in the community and businesses that have met our students know the quality of students that we have and I am excited for the new people and businesses that will get to know and interact with our students.”

This year will be the first time SAGU will be hosting an expo specifically for local businesses. In the past, SAGU hosted expos for both churches and businesses in the area. However, to truly showcase businesses, Robinson said that they decided to hold a separate expo.

Along with Waxahachie businesses, businesses in surrounding towns such as Red Oak and Midlothian are invited to participate in the event and be introduced to SAGU students.

“I am most excited about connecting students with our community and the networking opportunities that I believe will come out of it,” Robinson says. “A lot of our students are from all over the United States and they don’t know much about the area. It’s a way for businesses to get acquainted with our students.”

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the brick walkway that goes through the heart of the campus. Students will be released early from chapel to attend the event.
