Waxahachie, Texas – March 27, 2016 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is proud to host the 2016 David’s March and The Purple and Gold Celebration Run on Sunday, April 2, 2016.  The runs will be hosted on the campus of SAGU and all are invited to attend.

David Bush was SAGU’s IT Director from fall 2008 until his death in 2014 when he passed away from stage four Lymphoma.  Bush was a well-loved SAGU faculty member and he developed a special bond with SAGU men’s basketball coach Donnie Bostwick .

“I met David while doing my HR rounds after being hired,” recalls Bostwick, “I went by IT to get my login and password and needed some information pulled off an old laptop. We hit it off immediately and developed a quick bond.”

Bush and Bostwick became quick friends and Bostwick began attending Bush’s church where he pastored.  Over the next three years, Bostwick stood by his side as he battled cancer. For Bostwick it took him back to only a few short years before when he witnessed his father walk through his own battle with cancer, “It was like watching my brother go through a 12 round fight with Satan himself. David’s battle was similar to my father’s with even higher mountain tops and lower valleys. To see his faith, courage, and love for his wife and others no matter the pain or challenge he faced daily was unexplainable.”

On March 15, 2014, David went to be with the Lord, leaving his beloved wife, Joy, as well as his church family and his SAGU family.

As time went on, Bostwick wanted to honor Bush and his legacy.  Bostwick came up with the idea of David’s March, “This was one way I felt we could carry his legacy on, creating a scholarship and annually recognizing his Fight against this disease!  I think Marching or Running in this event allows everyone the opportunity to honor both David and possibly a loved one in their life that cancer has attacked.”

Bush’s story left such an impact with Bostwick that he is now writing a book about his journey against cancer and his friend’s story will be a large part of the book.  “Continuing to unite and fight against cancer in Jesus Name is the key to winning this battle. The goal is to unite one million Christians against cancer. I believe by doing so God will honor our faith and help us defeat this disease,” says Bostwick.
