Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Theatre will present ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,’ in the Hagee Communication Center auditorium beginning Friday, February 26th, and through the 28th. The February 26th and 27th showings are at 7:30 PM, followed by the 28th showing at 3 PM.

Based on the beloved Peanuts cartoon by Charles M. Schulz, this musical tells the story of the many mishaps of Charlie Brown. Though he can’t quite manage to tame his wily kite, can’t summon the courage to speak to the love of his life, or stay on his feet while kicking a football, Charlie Brown never gives up. With the help of his friends, his loyal but melodramatic dog, and his own stubborn will, Charlie Brown learns what it means to be a good man.

Charlie Brown has a broad appeal to both kids and adults. Everyone knows Charlie Brown. He’s part of our cultural consciousness today.”- Ronnie Blount, SAGU Theatre Professor/Director

This musical is a smaller production featuring just six cast members: Gragory Strange, Alyse Barboza, Jessica DeShazo, Josef Matthews, Bryant Cox, and Aaron Williams. All have appeared in previous SAGU productions, and each features his or her unique acting style. The cast is co-directed by Ronnie Blount and Juliana Barnett with Mr. Blount directing the acting and staging of the show, while Mrs. Barnett leads the vocals.

“With musicals, you tell the story with the songs. I, as a director, work on the transitions and the blocking. They also help tell the story. Figuring out the key component of storytelling, which are usually the songs and the transitions, are the glue that keep it together,” said Professor Blount.

To prevent exposure to COVID-19, seating is limited. But, admission is free! Doors will open 30 minutes before showtime, and everyone must wear masks.
