SAGU Junior Libero Nikki Almaguer

Waxahachie, TX – In the first match of a volleyball tri-match hosted by Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) the Langston (LU) Lions took on SAGU. The 4:00 pm match went three sets as SAGU won their 14 th match of the year against 6 losses and their 8 th Sooner Athletic Conference victory against three defeats in straight sets 25-9, 25-10, and 25-14.

Lady Lion Review

  • The sets were dominated by SAGU as the Lions committed 20 errors in the match to SAGU’s nine.
  • Due to the errors SAGU held Langston to a hitting percentage of -0.051 (15-20-109) while hitting .365 (44-9-86).
  • SAGU’s Nikki Almaguer (JR/Waxahachie, TX) had 24 of SAGU’s 61 team digs.
  • The Lady Lions were led in hitting by Madeleine Hartline (SR/Round Rock, TX) with 8 kills, Alexis Mealer (SO/Arlington, TX) with 9 kills, Ava Myers (FR/Round Top, TX) with 10 kills, and Emma Tompkins (FR/Waller, TX) with 9 kills.
  • Sophia Ivy (SR/Round Rock, TX) continued her pursuit of the SAGU All-Time Assist record with 35 assists in the match. This brings her within 53 of tying the record.

The Next Step

SAGU will play their second match of the day in the last match of the day at 8:00 pm against non-conference opponent University of Southwest from Hobbes, NM. On Saturday the 12 th of October SAGU will take on Central Christian College at 11:00 am as part of Homecoming festivities.
