Waxahachie, TX- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) was back in action on Saturday to finish their series with Randall University (RU). The Lions (3-1, 0-0) were able to sweep both games today over Randall (1-3, 0-0). SAGU took the first game 5-4 and the second game 2-1.
Game 1
Top Performers
- Joesph Vazquez ( SO/ Katy, TX ) hit another home run (2) on the year.
- Jared Anderson ( JR/ Houston, TX ) hit a three-run bomb (1).
- Kolby Clark ( FR/Waco, TX ) pitched five innings giving up 6 hits and 3 earned runs.
- SAGU hit .333 as a team and left only one runner on based compared to four by Randall.
Lions Review
- The Lions gave up a single in the first but that was hit as Randall left a man stranded.
- SAGU hit into a double play in the bottom of the inning, but Vasquez hit his second home run of the year to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
- Randall capitalized on some SAGU mistakes. Clark hit a man and walked another batter and then gave up a hit. He allowed another run to score off a wild pitch. SAGU found themselves down 3-1 after two innings.
- The third inning featured only one hit between the two teams.
- Randall used a sacrifice to push another run across, but Jared Anderson would crush a 3-run home run to tie the game 4-4. A sacrifice fly would give SAGU the 5-4 advantage.
- Clark looked to be in trouble as he gave up a triple, but he got out of the inning without giving up a run. SAGU couldn’t push a run across in the bottom of the inning but was able to hold on for the 5-4 victory.
Game 2
Top Performers
- Joseph Vazquez and Ryan Cole each scored a run.
- Drake Rodriguez ( FR/ Georgetown, TX ) and Tanner Lindle ( SR/Coppell, TX ) each knocked in one run.
- SAGU hit just .208 for the game.
- There were 13 total runners left on base.
- SAGU had four errors in the game.
- Jared Anderson pitched 6 innings giving up just four hits. He struck out 4 batters and didn’t give up an earned run.
Lions Review
- Both teams found themselves in an old-fashioned pitchers duel at the beginning of this game. Randall was held scoreless through four innings while SAGU managed just 1 run across thanks to a Drake Rodriguez triple.
- Randall tied it up in the fifth inning as the runs seemed very tough to come by.
- Each team would see a scoreless sixth inning.
- SAGU came up huge in the bottom of the seventh inning as Tanner Lindle singled to left field scoring Ryan Cole ( JR/Longview, TX ) to win the game 2-1.
What’s Next
SAGU (3-1, 0-0) will play another home series against Ottawa University. The series will start with two games beginning on January 31 st at 12:00 pm and will conclude with two games on February 1 st . This doubleheader will also begin at 12 pm.
