Waxahachie, Texas – February 11, 2017- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team had a perfect Saturday, winning both games of a doubleheader against University of the Southwest .  The Lady Lions won game one 4-1.  Game two went into extra innings, but SAGU pulled out the victory 8-7 in eight innings.

“Our team showed some mental toughness today,” remarks SAGU head coach Sarah Harman , “Both pitchers faced their lineup again and they were able to make adjustments.  Also, our hitters did a great job of putting on pressure.”

Game One (W 4-1)

Rachel Ray started on the mound and pitched all seven innings for SAGU.  She had two strike-outs while allowing two hits.

In the top of the first inning, SAGU had two errors which led to USW’s one run scored.

In the bottom of the second, Baylee McBrannon and Destinee Vindiola scored after Kayla Milstead doubled to right field.  USW ended the inning with a double play.

SAGU’s other two runs came in the bottom of the fifth after Milstead reached base on a fielder’s choice, scoring Kaitlyn Canales . Kristin Stringer hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Baylee McBrannon .

Baylee McBrannon went two for three at the plate, scoring two runs. Cheyenne Fults had one triple for the Lady Lions.

Game Two (8-7)

At the end of seven innings, SAGU and USW were tied at five.  In the top of the eighth, USW scored two runs off of two hits, stranding one on base.

The pressure was on for the Lady Lions, but that didn’t seem to faze them much. Baylee McBrannon singled to left field, scoring both Ashley Nop and Rieanha Cano .  SAGU scored the game-winning run after Destinee Vindiola hit a sacrifice bunt squeeze, scoring Kaitlyn Canales , who was pinch running for Kaili Williams .

SAGU’s Hannah Lee started on the mound.  She pitched five innings, striking out one and allowing seven hits. Rachel Ray pitched the final three innings, striking out one and allowing six hits.

Destinee Vindiola went two for four at the plate, she had two RBI’s and two runs scored.  She also hit a triple.
