Waxahachie, Texas- May 1, 2016- It was a rare Sunday game for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team.  The Lady Lions played Bacone College in a make-up game and split the series 1-1.  SAGU also honored four seniors, Kaitlyn King, Kelsey Coburn, Amber Gignac and Ashley Abair in between games.

With today’s Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) split, SAGU is now 6-42 overall and 3-23 in the SAC.  Bacone is 9-33 overall and 6-22 in the SAC.

Game One (W 8-0)

“We had a great start to senior day! The team started out on fire both offensively and defensively.  Hannah Lee only allowed two hits and our offense kept pressing.  Amber Gignac and Kelsey Coburn also had great days offensively with timely hits,” explains head coach Sarah Harman .

For the first time this season, SAGU run ruled their opponent, ending the game in five innings.  In the bottom of the first, SAGU’s Amber Gignac and Bailey Balloun were each able to score off of a BC error.

In the bottom of the second, SAGU picked up two quick outs before the Lady Lions were able to rally. Amber Gignac doubled to left-center to kick-off the rally.  SAGU scored five runs on a series of singles including Ashlyn Stanfill ’s single which drove in two runs.

Pitcher Hannah Lee picked up the win for SAGU.  She pitched all five innings with two strike-outs while giving up two hits.

Lead-off hitter Amber Gignac went three for three with three runs scored and one double. Kelsey Coburn went two for three at the plate, with one run scored and two RBI’s.

Game Two (L 7-3)

The second game was a different story for SAGU.  Bacone scored one run quickly in the top of the first, and continued to pick up at least one run every inning but the second.  The Lady Lions also committed five errors in the second game.

Bailey Balloun went two for four with one RBI and one run scored. Kelsey Coburn went two for four with two RBI’s.

Ashley Abair started on the mound and pitched five innings for SAGU.  She had two strike outs while allowing nine hits. Hannah Lee came in relief and pitched two innings.

BC’s Amanda Paul pitched two and one/third innings and Celeste Guerra pitched four and two/thirds in relief, while picking up the win for the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Lions will make up one more game on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 against Southwestern Christian.  SWCU is currently 9-34 overall and 4-20 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
