January 24 th , 2018—Waxahachie, Texas—The Southwestern Assemblies of God University Softball Lions are gearing up for the 2018 season. They will open their season on February 2 nd at Jarvis Christian in a double header. The Lady Lions were recently picked to finish 6 th in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) by the coaches picks.
Coach Sarah Harman is in her third season at SAGU and knows what her team is up against in the SAC. Coach Harman said, “Our goal is to be able to prove ourselves as a contender in our conference. We have goals that we want to achieve in a very tough conference. We will just take it one game at a time but we definitely feel like we can be in the top half of our conference.”
SAGU was picked 6 th behind Oklahoma City, Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Texas Wesleyan, newcomer Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and Mid-America Christian University.
SAGU will be led by three seniors: Bailey Balloun, Kristin Stringer, and Rachel Ray. Balloun and Stringer have been four year starters for SAGU while Ray is a junior college transfer in her 2 nd year with SAGU.
Coach Harman had high praise for her senior class saying, “They have grown a lot and been through a lot. They deserve every good thing they receive and I just can’t say enough about them and their leadership.”
SAGU finished the 2017 season with 17 wins and finished in 5 th place in the SAC.
