Waxahachie, Texas – June 8, 2017- The Sooner Athletic Conference has announced 62 student-athletes have earned their spot on the 2016-17 Academic All-Conference Softball team as presented by Cypress Risk Management. The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) softball team had 12 on the list, which is the second most student-athletes awarded in the SAC. The Lady Lions also boast the most-awarded from all SAGU teams.
The following SAGU players have been named to the 2016-2017 Academic All-Conference Softball team present by Cypress Risk Management: Adriana Alonzo (Lockhart, Texas), Bailey Balloun (Arlington, Texas), Adrianna Barnes (Duncanville, Texas), Rieanha Cano (Dilley, Texas), Cheyenne Fults (Waxahachie, Texas), Hannah Lee (Hardinsburg, Kentucky), Baylee McBrannon (Ferris, Texas), Ashley Nop (Stockton, California), Rachel Ray (Brazoria, Texas), Ashlyn Stanfill (Eldorado, Arkansas), Kristin Stringer (Mount Pleasant, Texas), Destinee Vindiola (Lubbock, Texas).
To be eligible for the SAC Academic All-Conference team, students must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA during the previous two semesters and are regulars (letter winners) on their respective team.
Seven of the SAC's eight institutions had at least one selection with Mid-America Christian University having the most with 13.
Cypress Risk Management, based in Omaha, Neb, is an insurance agency that specializes in providing customized solutions for collegiate student health and athletic accident insurance. The organization currently insures over 500,000 students nationwide and is already engaged with several other NAIA conferences in similar type of partnerships.
