“It’s an honor to have seven Lady Lions recognized this year by the NFCA for their hard work in their classes,” says head coach Sarah Harman , “They continue to make strides both on and off the field and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

With only 12 players on the roster, that means nearly 60% of the SAGU softball team were named.  The NFCA gives the honor to student-athletes that have maintained a grade point average higher than a 3.5 for the academic year.

SAGU softball is definitely reaching for academic excellence.  They also finished the year second in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) for academic team awards.  To be eligible, the team must have a grade point average of 3.0 of higher.  The Lady Lions had a cumulative GPA of 3.28.

In addition to the NFCA honor, eight SAGU softball players earned a spot on the 2016 Academic All-Conference Softball team as presented by Cypress Rish Management.  To be eligible for the SAC Academic All-Conference team, students must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA during the previous two semesters and are regulars (letter winners) on their respective team.

Ashley Abair, Bailey Balloun, Kelsey Coburn, Kaitlin King, Hannah Lee, Ashley Nop, Ashlyn Stanfill and Kristin Stringer all made the team.  The Lady Lions came in second with most players named.
