Dallas, Texas – September 23, 2015- The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team (3-3-1) came away with a huge victory over Dallas Baptist University (2-3-1).  The Lions topped the Patriots 1-0 in a hard fought battle by both teams.

“The boys played well and followed our plan for the game,” says head coach Clem Oancea , “I am pleased with their performance as a team.  We did not allow any goals and that’s a good accomplishment.  We talked about how one goal can win a game either way and that’s what played out in our favor.”

In only the first five minutes of play, SAGU scored a goal from a cross by Isai Bonilla and a bicycle kick by senior Robert Ambrosie .  The Lions took the lead, 1-0, and kept it for the remainder of the game.

At the end of the half, Senior goalkeeper Cesar Espana stopped a free kick right outside the 18, he gave up a rebound and then stopped the next shot about five feet away.  Both stops were skillful saves that helped to keep DBU scoreless.

Espana had six saves, while allowing zero goals.

The Lions have improved to 3-3-1.  On Thursday, September 23, 2015, SAGU will host Huston-Tillotson (2-4) at 5pm. SAGU Sports Network will be broadcasting the game.  You can watch it live HERE .
