Texas Wesleyan’s men and women soccer teams visited Waxahachie in a cross-town showdown. The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) teams are looking for a desperation win to revive their conference record. TWU men before Thursday night were 1-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference , and the women were 3-1. Both Ram teams came in loaded with the majority of their rosters being from the DFW area.

The women started first and it was all defense for both sides. Sarah Palmer had an impressive game saving all six of the Ram’s shots in the first 45 minutes. The score remained 0-0 until the 85th minute of the game when TWU forward, Tameir Grosvenor scored on an unassisted goal. The Lions didn’t test TWU’s goalie by not recording a shot on goal during this battle. Defensively, this was the best game in almost a month and will hopefully lead into a win next week when Mid-America Christian comes to SAGU.

The men also lost to the Rams when their forward, Claudio Barraza , scored three goals in less 35 minutes of play. SAGU scored their only goal of the game as Heriberto Diaz was open for an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. TWU would score again before the whistles blew for a final score of 4-1. Goalie, Jose Ladoriel had four saves on the night and Bastian Blumenberg for TWU had five. The Lions ended up having 11 shots attempts on the game but was unsuccessful scoring. The Lions move to 4-9-1 during the 2018-2019 campaign with four games remaining in the regular season.

Both squads will face Mid-America Christian University in Waxahachie next Tuesday, 10/16. The games will kick off at 4 pm for another conference test for the Lions.
