Waxahachie, TX – The Southwestern Assemblies Of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions Soccer took on the Texas College Lady Steers from

Tyler, TX on Saturday in a 2:00 pm match at the Lion Athletic Complex in Waxahachie, TX. This was the first match for SAGU since playing Paul Quinn College on August 20 th , a match they won 2-0 over the Lady Tigers. The Lady Lions scored early and often to corral the Lady Steers winning by a final score of 7-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Lady Lion Review

  • The game was the second shutout of the season for the Lady Lions.
  • SAGU opened the scoring at 5:50 in the game with a goal by Natalie Solorio (Sr/Dallas,TX) on an assist from Alexandra Stuva (FR/Waco, TX) .
  • One minute and four seconds later it was Olivia Reader (So/Paris, TX) and this time Natalie Solorio (Sr/Dallas, TX) had the assist.
  • SAGU banged home their third goal of the first half at 22:59 on a goal by Vivianne Garza (JR/Harlingen, TX) .
  • SAGU outshot the Lady Steer 8-1 in the first half controlling the ball offensively in Texas College’s half of the pitch.
  • In the second half Natalie Solorio (SR/Dallas, TX) scored her second goal of the game on a shot inside the goalie box. She was assisted by Olivia Reader (So/Paris, TX) and Natalia Torres (JR/Royse City, TX) .
  • On the fifth goal it was Natalia Torres turn to score with an assist by Natalie Solorio (SR/Dallas, TX) .
  • SAGU made the score 6-0 on the second goal of the match by Natalia Torres (JR/Royse City, TX ). Vivianne Garza (JR/Harlingen, TX) .
  • The 78 th minute of the game provided the games last goal when Alexandra Stuva (FR/Waco, TX) scored a solo goal from about 20 yards out.
  • SAGU outshot Texas College 23-1 for the game.

  • On the opponent :  “Texas College has improved from last year.”
  • On the Lions improvement over the last two weeks : “The things we have been working on in practice worked today in the game. The players were excited to see those things occur and took ownership of their play and opportunities.”

The Next Step

  • On Tuesday, September 10 th the Lady Lions will try to go to 3-0 when they take on the Huston-Tillotson Rams in a 1:00 match.
