The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) came off of a big win last Thursday and hoped to keep that alive against a talented LSU Shreveport team that is stacked with upperclassman. The Pilots are currently ranked 3rd in the nation for shots per game and shots on goal per game, they are also ranked 5th in the nation for total shutouts and goals per game. With a well balanced offense and defensive team, this would be a game they knew they’d have to play well in to come away with a victory.
In a close first half, the only goal came from Jevanni Hinkson with the delivering coming from Zac Gunaratnam-Bailey . The whistles blew at the 45 minute mark with a score of 1-0 and it being anyone’s game. The second half picked up right where the game left off, all defense for the first 20 minutes. Still tied 1-0, goalie Chris Thorman is putting together another good game. Then the Pilots made some key subs and went on a spree. They scored 4 goals in the final 25 minutes of the game, 2 coming from Guilherme Martins who has had 6 goals in the past 2 games. The Pilots defeated the Lions by a score of 5-0 in the non-conference matchup Monday night.
The Lions will play another non-conference battle against Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX , Thursday night after the women’s game. The Rams are 0-1 with a 0-4 loss to SAC member Wayland Baptist.
