Waxahachie, TX- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) came back home to the Sheaffer Center after their narrow defeat to Mid-American Christian University (MACU) on Saturday. SAGU hosted Central Christian College (Kan.) (CCCK) on Thursday night. The Lions (14-3, 6-3) were able to regroup as they took care of the Tigers (8-9, 1-8) late pulling out a 77-60 victory.
Top Performers
- Josh Kashila (J R/Euless, TX ) led the Lions in scoring with 21 points.
- Darian Davis (SR/Garland, TX ) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
- Mitchell McMullen (SR/San Antonio, TX ) (11) and Nyk Mason ( SO/Frisco, TX ) (10) also hit double-figure scoring.
- SAGU shot 52% (32-61) from the field including 33% (6-18) from behind the arc.
- SAGU narrowly won the rebounding battle 44-41.
- The Lions got a massive boost from their bench as they scored 26 points on a night were things started slow.
Lions Review
- Davis scored the first couple buckets as SAGU jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
- CCCK rattled off 10 straight points to let SAGU know they came to play.
- McMullen hit a deep three and a mid-range bucket to give SAGU the lead (13-10) with 12:47 left in the first half.
- There were 5 ties or lead changes over the next several minutes, but SAGU had a 26-22 lead with 3:49 left.
- CCCK got a couple of stops and baskets in the last couple of minutes to tie the game 28-28 at halftime.
- Howard Turner ( FR/Detroit, MI ) and Davis scored the first eight points for the Lions as they led 36-34 early in the second half.
- CCCK would tie the game at 41-41 with another long range three.
- McMullen hit another three-pointer, but it was quickly answered as the SAGU lead was cut to 50-46 with 11:46 left.
- Mason didn’t have quite the production he has had over the past couple weeks, but he did provide a spark for the Lions. Kashila hit him with a long pass as he jammed it in. Mason immediately followed it up with a breakaway windmill jam after a steal. The crowd was in a frenzy and forced CCCK to call a timeout. SAGU was up 56-46 win 10:00 remaining.
- Kashila would score 9 points over the next 6 minutes to steady the Lions and give them more breathing room. SAGU would ride their double-digit lead to an eventual 77-60 win.

SAGU will continue their homestand on Saturday, January 25 th against Langston (Okla.) at 3:45 pm back at the Sheaffer Center on SAGU campus.
