NAIA National Championship Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions Talladega College

The game will be on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 10:45am.  Both Talladega and SAGU reached the National Championship last year, the Tornadoes even advanced to the final 16 before losing 82-80 to Cumberlands (Kentucky).

“The teams in Kansas City are all very good,” admits head coach Donnie Bostwick , “Talladega has a number of key players back from last year.  They play an up-tempo style of play.  We have a week to prepare for them as do they, so I expect a great game.”

There is no common opponent between the two teams.  Currently, SAGU is ranked no. 16 in the NAIA and Talladega isn’t far behind with a no. 20 ranking.  SAGU has an overall record of 23-9 and TC is now 22-10.

TC’s Jordan Washington averages nearly 25 points per game, ranking second in the NAIA in scoring.  As a team, Talladega ranks no. five in the NAIA in scoring margin.  On average, they outscore their opponent by 16 points.

SAGU’s theme for the year has been “We are 8’s”.  Coach Bostwick came up with the theme based on the Bible story of David.  In the Bible, David’s father, Jesse, lined up his seven brothers when Samuel came to anoint the next King of Israel.  God chose David, who even his own father did not expect greatness from.

“Through the cross, Jesus’ blood gives all of us the choice of accepting the same Spirit that lived in Him to live in us. That choice allows us to do so much more than we are capable of. Our goal is to seek and fight for a platform to glorify our King,” explains Bostwick.

The game will be broadcast live.  The NAIA and SAGU will be provide the link closer to game time.
