Waxahachie, Texas- December 10, 2015- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is excited to announce the upcoming Holiday Classic presented by Assemblies of God Credit Union (AGCU) . The two-day classic will be December 17-18, 2015. This is the first year all teams competing will be Assemblies of God universities.

Southeastern (Florida), Evangel (Missouri), Vanguard (California) and Southwestern (Texas) will each play two games in the classic. The fact these four schools are coming together for a tournament is quite exciting for multiple reasons according to SAGU athletic director Jesse Godding , “SAGU has a tremendous opportunity to host a basketball classic with the institutions represented. The history of the teams, the fact that these institutions are related by affiliation and the caliber of coaches involved will provide spectators with a tremendous weekend of basketball.”
In the most recent NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll , two teams out of the four are nationally ranked. SAGU is currently ranked no. 15 and Vanguard is ranked no. 21.
On top of stellar basketball, the players will be giving back to the community. The four teams will be hosting basketball clinics for local kids. The clinics will be held at SAGU on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. The times for the clinics are 6pm-7pm and 7:15pm-8pm. Former NBA players will be on hand to speak at the clinic.
According to SAGU head coach Donnie Bostwick , the basketball will be top-notch, but the time to work together will be the most important aspect of the tournament, “Each of these programs has reached at least the NAIA Final Four. It should be excellent competition, a time to reach out to our community together, and a time for our players to get to know each other. Most importantly we look forward to honoring Christ through the game of basketball.”
On Thurday, December 17, 2015, Southeastern (5-3) takes on Evangel (1-8) at 5:30pm. SAGU (8-2) plays Vanguard (7-0) at 7:30pm.
On Friday, December 18, 2015, Southeastern plays Vanguard at 5:30pm. SAGU plays Evangel at 7:30pm.
