Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football Texas Wesleyan University ,

TWU is in its first season of football since 1941 and is currently 0-3 on the season. SAGU is coming off a dominating 54-7 victory over Central States Football League (CSFL) member Texas College last Saturday and is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in CSFL play.

Currently, SAGU’s offense is leading the CSFL in scoring offense per game (44 points per game) and total offense per game (483 yards per game).

SAGU’s offense is led by junior quarterback CJ Collins .  Collins is the current CSFL Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Texas College .  Collins is averaging 285 passing yards per game and has amassed 10 touchdowns this season.

The rushing game is led by senior JP Lowery who averages 117 yards per game and had three touchdowns this season.  Senior running back Ricky Bickham averages 69 yards per game and has four touchdowns this season. Roderick Brown and Jeremy Carr lead the Lions receiving core with 106 yards and 94 yards respectively combining for seven touchdowns.

Defensively, the Lions are led by Matt Williams with 23 tackles, Coby Roach has 21 tackles and Landon Jones has 20 tackles for SAGU. The defense has picked off its opponent four times this year, one for a touchdown.

For Texas Wesleyan, quarterback Kane Hardin is averaging 157 yards passing per game. Jermarcus Jones is averaging over 60 yards rushing per game.

SAGU Head Coach Frank Tristan acknowledges that there are a lot of unknowns with the young Rams, “With a first year program you are going to have to play young guys.  Each game they will get a ton better with experience.  They are well-coached, aggressive on defense and there running back is very talented.”

Saturday’s contest will be played at Farrington Field in Fort Worth. The game will begin at 2:00 PM and ticket prices start at $10.  The game will be broadcast live at Ramsports.net.
