Waxahachie, Texas – November 15, 2016- The Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) has released the 2016 All-Conference teams and SAGU’s Nadine Jaimes has picked up first team honors. A total of 29 student-athletes were selected on the two teams, 15 on the first team and 14 on the second team.
Jaimes led the Lady Lions, as well as the SAC, in goals scored. She scored 20 goals over a span of 18 games played this season. Jaimes ranks no. 12 in the NAIA in total goals scored.
On top of being the leading scorer for SAGU, the junior from Mesquite, Texas , also led the team in assists (5), shots (88) and shots on goal (50).
First-year head coach Paul Hason believes this isn’t just an honor for Jaimes, but the entire team, “It’s a great accomplishment for Nadine and for the whole team. The team strives to be better than we were yesterday and all awards, recognitions, and victories are the direct result of everyone’s contribution to make everyone better around them.”
The Lady Lions finished the season 9-9 overall and 3-6 in SAC play.
Player-of-the-Year honors went to Aspen Robinson of John Brown University. Robinson ranked second in the league in goals scored (16) and total points (39). Her teammate Jastin Redman, also from Littleton, Colo., was named the Offensive Player-of-the-Year after finishing fourth in goals scored (13) and third in total points (36).
Two players – Samantha Weber of JBU and Theresa Garsztecki of Texas Wesleyan – shared the SAC Defensive Player of the Year award.
Mid-America Christian’s Jordan Stanbrough and Texas Wesleyan’s Drea Molina shared Newcomer-of-the-year award. JBU also collected freshman of the year with Kristen Howell and coach of the year with Kathleen Paulson.
Voting was done by the league’s 10 soccer coaches.
