Greenville, South Carolina – September 27, 2016-  The National Christian Colleges Athletics Association has named the Student-Athletes of the Week, and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) cross country athlete Gerardo (Jerry) Nava received the national award.

SAGU head cross country coach Jason Covarrubias believes Nava is very-deserving of the honor, “I have never met an athlete who can run effortlessly yet train so hard!  Jerry is one of a kind and truly a natural leader.  It’s called a God-send.”

So far this season, Nava finished sixth out of 84 in the first race of the season.  In the second race of the season he finished second out of 33, and most recently finishing first out of 19.

The converted soccer player was the first male runner from SAGU to compete in the NAIA  Marathon National Championship.  He finished 14 th overall.

Next up for the SAGU cross country team is a trip to Florida.  The Lions and Lady Lions will run the Disney Classic in Orland on October 8, 2016.
