Waxahachie, Texas – November 11, 2016- The Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) has announced its All-Conference men’s soccer team for the 2016 season.  A total of 29 student-athletes were selected on the two teams and Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s (SAGU) Isai Bonilla was named to the second team.

Bonilla is a senior from El Salvador.  He scored 11 goals for the season as well as having 40 shots on goal for the season, which averaged to more than two shots on goal a game.  For the NAIA he ranked no. 16 in shots on goal per game and 25 th for shots per game (4).  In four games this season, Bonilla scored two goals.

SAGU men’s soccer coach Clem Oancea knows that Bonilla is very deserving of this honor, “Isai is certainly one of the best players we have ever had on our roster.  His hard work and determination have been stellar for us and it was so easy for everyone else to see it. He has proven once again that size has nothing to do with the game but the size of your heart and attitude is everything for any athlete.”

Bonilla helped to lead the Lions to a 9-7-2 season in which the Lions got off to their best start in history with an 8-0-1 record.

The SAGU men’s soccer team will continue their season when they travel to Colorado to play in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) regional tournament next week.  On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, SAGU will play Colorado Christian University (1-17) at 3:00pm.

14 student-athletes were named on the first team and 15 on the second team.  Voting was done by the league’s 10 soccer coaches.

Offensive Player-of-the-Year and Player-of-the-Year honors went to John Brown University’s Kelvin Omondi.  Kitale is a sophomore from Kitale, Kenya and he led the SAC in goals scored with 16.

The SAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year was awarded to Oklahoma City’s Alexandre Taiair.
