Waxahachie, Texas- December 16, 2015- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) football player Carl Morgan has been named to the Second Team American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NAIA All-American .  Morgan is a sophomore defensive back from Shreveport, Louisiana.

Defensive back’s coach Beau Grech said this honor was a goal Morgan set for himself, “He told me last spring that being an All-American was one of his goals this season.  I knew he had the ability and I believe his hard work and preparation over the summer paved the way for him and this honor.  I expect more national recognition for Carl over the next two years.”

In the 2015 season, Morgan had 19 pass break-ups, five interceptions, two of which he ran back for a touchdown.  He also had 32 tackles.

In the NAIA Division I, Morgan ranked no. three in passes defended per game (1.7), no. seven in interceptions per game (.5) and no. eight in total interceptions (5).

“Carl Morgan is obviously a great kid and works hard.  His ability to change direction is unbelievable.  He is disciplined in his technique,” says head coach Frank Tristan.

Morgan is the first football player in program history to be named to the AFCA NAIA All-American Second Team.  Morgan’s teammate, junior D’Vonn Brown , also made school history this year when he was named to the AFCA NAIA All-American First Team.

In addition to the All-American honor, Morgan was also picked as a first team Central States Football League defensive back.

Morgan helped lead SAGU to the best finish in school history.  The Lions ended 8-3 and won the NCCAA Victory Bowl.
