Waxahachie, Texas – May 27, 2016 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) remembers business administrator and secretary-treasurer Lorraine Wise who recently passed away at age 103. She played an integral part of the establishment of SAGU and its 70-acre campus in Waxahachie, Texas.
Wise graduated from Shield of Faith Bible School founded by Reverend Guy Shields in Amarillo, Texas. Upon graduation, she began working for Shield of Faith when the school relocated to Fort Worth, Texas , in 1935 and merged into Southern Bible Institute.
After the merger, the Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God took ownership and direction and formed the South Central Bible Institute in Enid, Oklahoma. The school then merged with South Central in 1941, at which time the name was changed to Southwestern Bible Institute. In 1943, the Institute moved to its present facilities in Waxahachie, Texas, and later became SAGU.
Wise was also an accountant for many other businesses including Montgomery Wards in Chicago, IL; Glad Tidings Bible Institute in San Francisco, CA; Rev. William F. Freeman, Evangelist in Branson, MO; Christ For The Nations Institute in Dallas, TX; Wise Welding Inc. in Santa Ana, CA; and Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International in Santa Ana and Los Angeles, CA.
After retiring at the age of 62, Wise moved to California and lived in a retirement community at San Diego First Assembly of God. At 95, she wrote a book titled “God Is Real: Excerpts from My Spiritual Journey Through 78 Years” published in 2011.
