With a desire to expand the Kingdom and a heart of deep gratitude, Dr. Lyndal Bullock generously donated $1 million to SAGU during a ceremony in the Hagee Communications Center on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.

Lyndal Bullock, a 1956 graduate of SAGU, has a passion for Christian higher education that began at SAGU 69 years ago. Dr. Bullock received his first degree at Southwestern Bible Institute (SBI), which later became Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). He was a classroom teacher and counselor in the public school system from 1959-1969. He went on to serve in higher education at Central State University in Oklahoma, the University of Florida, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Louisville. In 1979, he joined the faculty at the University of North Texas, where he faithfully worked for 37 years in the department of educational psychology.

Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Bullock received a myriad of degrees. In addition to his degree from SBI, he earned a Bachelor of Art in Sociology and Education from Oklahoma City University, a Master in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Education in Guidance, Counseling, and Special Education from the University of Oklahoma, and an EdD in Special Education from the University of Kansas.

Bullock is an accomplished educator with many accolades, yet he has never ceased to forget where it all began for him. “You never lose focus of your first degree,” Bullock said. He recalls receiving a form right after he graduated that asked, “What did you gain the most from your time at Southwestern?” Bullock shared, “I remember distinctly writing, I got my wife.”

For Dr. Bullock, his late wife, Aileen, is the inspiration for his generous donation. She, too, was an accomplished student and taught for many years in elementary education. Following her passing earlier this year, Dr. Bullock sought out a way for her legacy to live on. He recalled thinking, “We need to give back to where we began.” There is now an endowment scholarship in her name.

This Fall, after becoming aware of the need for new facilities to serve students majoring in high-demand fields such as Education and Business, Dr. Bullock felt led to make this generous donation toward the future construction of a new academic building. His gift will directly impact SAGU’s ability to train and equip Spirit-filled leaders to serve in the classrooms and businesses of our communities.

President Kermit Bridges stated, “We are excited and humbled by Lyndal Bullock’s generosity, and we join him in praying that God will speak to the hearts of others to join in supporting the development of this vitally important academic building designed to prepare competent teachers and skilled business leaders.”

It is Dr. Bullock’s sincere hope and prayer that other alumni and friends of SAGU will join in contributing to making this much-needed facility a reality!

As a leading Christian university, SAGU educates and prepares individuals who want to serve Christ and others.
