August 10, 2017 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Professor Dr. Loyd Uglow will be releasing his newest novel, “Slow Train to Sonora “ on August 16.

“’Slow Train to Sonora’ combines action, romance and suspense and is sure to keep readers of both traditional Westerns and historical thrillers on board to the last stop,” Dr. Uglow says.

The story is set in revolutionary Mexico in 1911. Two United States Army officers are assigned the task of retrieving intel from Mexico for the U.S. War Department. As they trek through the mountains of Sonora to accomplish their mission, they must face a number of obstacles including conflict with Acordada, the Mexican secret police organization in Sonora.

“I love the time period of revolutionary Mexico a century ago, and it has not been written about by very many novelists,” Dr. Uglow said.

Uglow received inspiration for the story after coming across a true account of two American officers who were actually sent to Mexico during that time period for such a mission. Although the officers did not have any particularly noteworthy adventures, he believed their journey could offer an interesting basis for a story. He also used the same characters In “Marksman’s Trinity,” a novel by Uglow that was released in 2014. He decided the characters would deem a good fit for this novel and created the two books as part of a series.

Along with the upcoming release of the novel, Uglow has developed and plans to submit manuscripts with the same characters to publishers in the future.
