The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s soccer team played the #13 team in the nation Wayland Baptist University , as well as anyone, has all year long in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference . WBU is now 13-3 on the season and have only lost one game in the past month. The Lions took the Pioneers to overtime before losing in the 98th minute of the game when WBU scored to advance them into the semi-finals of the SAC tournament.

The Pioneers are led by their defense landing in the top 10 nationally in multiple categories. That trend continued as Mazvita Chidarara had the lone shot on goal as their goalie, Ziggy Camejo saved it in regulation. Overtime started at the 90th minute and the Pioneers scored a non-assisted goal by defender, James Quinn for his fifth of the year. Goalie, Jose Ladoriel was just short as the ball tipped off his fingertips to land in the goal. Ladoriel had another good game-saving eight off their nine shots on goal.

The Lions finish with a 6-12-1 record for the 2018-2019 season, SAGU remains nationally ranked on the defense side of the field. Total saves, goals allowed per game, and saves per game are categories they rank in the top 35 nationally.
