Waxahachie, Texas – February 1 st , 2018, The Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) Men’s Basketball team won against Wayland Baptist University (WBU), 108-106 in double overtime. SAGU moves to 15-7 overall and is now setting behind three teams who are tied for first in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

In the first half of regulation, both teams came out strong and battled for the lead. Wayland Baptist took the lead right at the end of the half with a score of 47-44. Both teams came back onto the floor giving their best in the second half. At the final buzzer of regulation, the score was tied at 96-96, sending the game into overtime. The first overtime was left at a tie again forcing both teams to go into a second overtime. SAGU came out victorious in this conference bout with Wayland Baptist with a score of 108-106.

Head Coach Delton Deal said, “Wow! What an unbelievable and gutsy performance from our guys. We just continued to fight when things weren’t looking good. We told our guys that if we stay together and trust in God, anything is possible and this is a perfect example of that. I’m so proud of our effort tonight!”

The Lions’ next game will be against Oklahoma Panhandle State University on February 3 rd , 2018 in the Sheaffer Center at 8:00 P.M. The coaching staff’s from both men’s and women’s teams will be participating in Coaches vs. Cancer.
