Waxahachie, TX – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) men’s basketball opened the 2019-2020 campaign by taking on the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Saints in a mid-afternoon contest at the Sheaffer Center at SAGU. SAGU (1-0, 0-0) prevailed over OLLU (0-2, 0-0) by a score of 98-71.
Notable Performers
- Joshua Kashila (JR/Euless, TX) scored 20 total points to lead the Lions.
- Nykolas Mason (SO/Frisco, TX) added 18 points for SAGU.
- Darian Davis (SR/Garland, TX) was the other double digit scorer for the Lions with 14 points on the afternoon. Davis added three blocked shots as well.
- Mason and Davis tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
- SAGU was 11 of 12 from the free throw line.
- SAGU shot 58% from the floor for the day.
- The game saw the return of Cody Farmer (SO/San Antonio, TX) to the SAGU lineup. Farmer was out of action last year with an injury but seemed to be in midseason form scoring nine points by hitting 3 of 4 three-point attempts.
- The game also marked the return of Kentton Williams (SR/Levelland, TX) to the SAGU court. Williams a transfer from Lubbock Christian University played his freshman year at SAGU under then head coach Donnie Bostwick.
How it Happened
- SAGU grabbed an early lead and did not relinquish it for the remainder of the game. The Lions outscored the Saints 49-34 in the first half and 49-37 in the second half.
- With the scored tied at 8-8 with 16:19 left in the first period the Lions began to exert their dominance and stretched the lead to 28-14 with 9:37 remaining in the half.
- At 7:41 the Lions had doubled up the Saints at 36-18 and the game was not close beyond that point.
- SAGU held the Saints to 38% shooting in the first half and the game.
- If there was a downside it was the number of turnovers for the Lions. SAGU recorded one more turnover than the Saints (22-21).

- SAGU will play Dallas Christian College on Tuesday, November 5 th in a 7:00 pm contest at the Sheaffer Center Gym on the campus of SAGU.
