The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) women and men soccer teams traveled to Oklahoma on October 16th to face Mid-America Christian University . The Lions split against MACU; the women had a stellar first half before losing 1-4 and the men won their second conference game of the year with a score of 1-0.

The Lady Evangels scored in the first ten minutes to give them a 0-1 lead against SAGU to keep that score at the end of the first half. The opening minutes of the 2nd half the Lady Lions scored on an assist from Melissa Navarro to her sister Messly Navarro to tie the game, 1-1. SAGU’s defense held MACU scoreless for almost 50 minutes then scored three goals in the final 35 minutes of the game to hand the Lions a 1-4 loss. Messly Navarro, Melissa Navarro, and Rachel Freed all had three shots on goal while goalie, Sarah Palmer had four saves on the day. The Lady Lions are 5-9-1 on the season and 0-6 in the SAC.

The men’s team had their best defensive game of the season while not allowing a goal against the Evangels. Goalie, Jose Ladoriel had 10 saves on the game to give him his 3rd double-digit save game of the year. The game remained scoreless until the 61st minute of the game when Bryan Callejas found Heriberto Diaz to give them the Lady a 1-0 win. Diaz is 14th in the nation with 14 total goals and 20th in total points with 32. SAGU men soccer is 5-9-1 on the season and 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference .

The Lions are back in action Friday when they travel back to Oklahoma to face the University of Science and Arts . The women start at 5 pm then the men will follow after for another conference test.


Southwestern Assemblies of God University is a private, Christian university located 30 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in Waxahachie, Texas.
