Langston, OK- Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Women’s Basketball team hit the hardwood Thursday night for a game against Langston University (Okla.) (LANG). This game was important for both teams in the terms of seeding in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) standings. SAGU (11-13, 6-11) fell in the final seconds to Langston (11-12, 7-10) by the score of 76-75.

Tamera Derrough scored 18 points against LU

Top Performers

  • Tamera Derrough ( SO/Mansfield, TX) scored a game-high 18 points.
  • Alexis Casher ( JR/Irvington, AL ) pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds for SAGU.
  • Sydney Meador ( JR/Denton, TX ) (15) and Kiara Glenn ( JR/Ennis, TX ) (12) also cracked double-figure scoring for the Lady Lions.
  • SAGU lost the rebounds=ing battle 52-44.
  • There were a combined 50 turnovers and 48 fouls committed during the game.
  • SAGU shot 32% (22-67) from the field including 26% (7-27) from beyond the arc.

Lions Review

  • SAGU got behind early thanks to 10 turnovers in the first six minutes. Langston scored the first 11 points of the game before Glenn broke SAGU’s scoring drought with 3:55 left in the first quarter.
  • The SAGU Lady Lions seemed like they settled down as they were able to get to the free-throw line and put some points on the board. Langston led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Derrough scored the first basket of the second quarter with 6:54 to go as Langston led 28-15.
  • Lauren Baker ( FR/Lexington, KY ) hit a much-needed three-pointer which seemed to wake the Lady Lions up. The basket sparked an 11-5 run to close the gap to 33-26 with 3:07 left before half.
  • Meador scored the last seven points of the half for SAGU as they trailed 41-35 at the break.
  • Derrough hit a couple quick baskets as SAGU trailed 44-42 just a couple minutes into the second half.
  • Lexi Rich ( SR/San Antonio, TX ) hit a triple with 4:40 left in the quarter to make it a one-possession game again 50-48.
  • The teams traded baskets in a game, but Jane Carr ( FR/Canton, TX ) got a rebound and put back to make it 57-55. Late free-throws by Baker tied the game at 57-57 going into the final quarter.
  • Glenn opened up the quarter with a basket to give SAGU their first lead of the game at 59-57.
  • LU separated themselves with a 7-0 run to lead 72-65 with 5:10 left in regulation.
  • The tandem of Carr and Baker got SAGU back into the game cutting the lead to 72-70 for LU.
  • Carr pulled down a massive offensive rebound and put it in to give the Lady Lions a 74-73 lead with :18 left.
  • Casher stepped to the line with :14 left but missed the second free-throw. LU pushed the ball and hit a three-pointer to take the lead 76-75.
  • Derrough got the ball with one last chance for SAGU, but it was blocked as time expired.

SAGU continues its road swing as they will face Central Christian College on Saturday, February 22 nd at 2:00 pm.
